Sustainability

Our focus is to have minimal impact on the environment and where possible to improve and leave things better than we found them

- Has ceiling fans in the living room and dining room area for cooling

- Has no electric heating or electric blankets

- Has blankets and hot water bottles for warmth at night

- Collects its own rainwater for use for drinking, cooking, washing and showering

- Has all-electric (no gas) appliances except for the outdoor BBQ.

- Does have fireplaces for warmth and we source good quality, dry wood to minimise smoke pollution

- We do not use synthetic scents

- We use natural fibres where possible

- We use sustainable furnishings sourced locally and many pre-loved quality vintage items

- We support local artists and artisans.

- We support local businesses, producers and makers wherever we can with many identified in the cottage manual and their business cards kept onsite.

- We provide reusable shopping bags (under the sink)

- We collect paper and cardboard recyclable waste to use for the fire.

- We collect cans and bottles as part of the recycle rewards scheme with the proceeds donated to the North East Animal Sanctuary Tasmania.

- Where possible we use and provide green sustainable cleaning and body products.

- We do not use chemical fire lighters for the fire

- We do not use pesticides, herbicides or poisons in the yard or on the garden

- As we have abundant wildlife that call the Whimsy home we do not allow pets

- We support Weldborough Landcare in their efforts against weed species including Blackberry, Ivy, Bamboo and Foxgloves

- We do not have any garden lights

- For safety we do have a sensor light at the front and rear of the cottage which are triggered by movement and switch off automatically.

- The warm white lights under the outdoor covered area are manually operated and only used when needed.

- We are a member of Dark Sky Tasmania
